Best Of  Vinyl Cover

Best Of vinyl sleeve and banner concept design for an established musician.

Composed using Procreate and Adobe Photoshop.

Focused on illustration and photo manipulation.

Design Goals

The Tyler Childers vinyl sleeve and banner is intended to serve as a Best Of album design which reflects the musicians established style. Considering Tyler Childers is a country singer with a folk style, who discusses serious subject matters in his music, I aimed to make the cover and banner appear ornamented, using patterns and saturated colors with a heavy, textured typeface to create a somber and expressive visual experience.

Early Sketches

Challenges

The design should resemble a vinyl cover and banner, including both sides of the vinyl sleeve, a disk design, and a streaming service banner. It should be unique, while also resembling the existing branding of the artist.

Process

To design the vinyl, I started with sketching the overall idea and imagry on the front, mostly taking inspiration from Childers, Live on Red Barn Radio, album cover. I then went into illustrating the visual on Procreate, and picking out the color pallete along with the imagry. When all the imagry was produced, I exported the drawings into photoshop where I formated the rest of the vinyl in Photoshop, adding typography, editing illustration colors, and finally adding and manipulating images of Tyler Childers himself. When the vinyl design itself was complete, I began working on the banner which featured similar elements from the vinyl itself.
